Getting Started with Flyaway Farm and Kennels Wildlife Management

Flyaway Farm & Kennels is a woman-owned, HUB zone certified company with years of experience in airfield wildlife control.  We are registered with CCR and Pro-Net, enabling us to do business with Federal Government agencies and organizations.

Full service wildlife control programs

This all-inclusive package provides wildlife control personnel, trained dogs, vehicles, pyrotechnics, firearms, and any other necessary equipment. All of this remains under the control of and property of Flyaway Farm and Kennels' personnel. The Flyaway Farm and Kennels employee(s) will handle all airfield patrols and wildlife harassment, perform bird population counts, monitor fencing, handle trapping and review habitat management. They will recommend and carry out new control methods in conjunction with the facility personnel. At each facility we perform an initial site assessment with detailed recommendations for habitat modification of the airfield and surrounding areas and we review these plans annually. We also evaluate sources of wildlife issues from areas outside the airfield and work with local agencies to address problems.

Flyaway Farm and Kennels is able to provide an effective and comprehensive wildlife control package because of our expertise in wildlife biology and years of experience doing wildlife control on airports, as well as corporate, municipal and private facilities. We approach each location as a unique setting and can adjust our program to solve your specific problems. Our employees have the training and educational background to research wildlife control issues and find the most effective and appropriate solution. We are experienced in active control of bird populations on the airfield but we also emphasize passive control issues and can suggest changes to the airfield that will reduce the number of birds posing a threat to aircraft. We know from experience what we need to do to reduce the number of birdstrikes at a location and will be an extremely effective component of your program. We have experience working on military and civilian airfields and are very knowledgeable of military and FAA regulations and requirements.

Wildlife Hazard Assessments and Program Reviews

We have experienced airport biologists certified to perform wildlife hazard assessments required by the FAA and able to develop wildlife control plans tailored to each specific airport.  Airfield wildlife hazard assessments do not need to take 12-16 months to complete.  With our program, you will have a detailed initial assessment within 30 days of our first site visit and subsequent follow-up visits will expand the assessment to add information on seasonal variation and assess any modifications to airfield conditions.  With our program, you can start using the information right away and start implementing changes more quickly.  We also include one full year of consulting with the assessments and are available to answer questions and analyze wildlife issues of concern as well as issues with local development and its impact on airfield operations.  All assessments are conducted by Dr. Karen Voltura.  She has been performing extensive airfield assessments for our military clients, including assessing off-airport sources of wildlife issues, land development and encroachment concerns including landfills, waste transfer stations, agriculture and other wildlife attractants.  So you can be certain that someone with education and experience will be in charge of your project.   We will also work with you to develop or refine your wildlife hazard management plan.

Training for Wildlife Control Personnel

Flyaway Farm and Kennels also offers training programs for airport personnel in wildlife control techniques to meet the requirements of the FAA regulation Part 139 for the Certification of Airports. We design classes specific to your program and facility and train personnel on dealing with wildlife issues and adjusting programs to new and emerging wildlife hazards.

Airports: Buying or leasing a wildlife control dog

If you have available wildlife control personnel at your facility, we offer trained Border collies for purchase or lease.  We will discuss the working environment to ensure complete compatibility between the dog(s) we train for you and your facility.  We will have you provide us with detailed information concerning the dog's working and boarding environment as well as details of your facility's layout and each dog is specifically trained for each facility based upon a purchase questionnaire and site visit.  Our airport dogs are experienced on all types of wildlife and come with experience working around aircraft and airfield operations.  We will work with your handlers upon delivery and ensure your new dog will be an immediate and effective member of your team.  If interested, we can visit your facility and offer a demonstration.  Contact Rebecca Ryan to discuss your wildlife control needs.
