Border collies
provide an actual threat as opposed to a perceived threat in the
minds of the birds.
u
nuisance birds and
wildlife cannot habituate to the Border collie as they can to
propane cannons, pyrotechnics and predator decoys.
u
Border collies put a
real predator into your predator-free environment. They are a
predator that you can control, by directing where, when, and
what they hunt.
u
Border collies are
versatile and can control various bird and wildlife populations:
our dogs work deer, Canada geese and any other waterfowl, egrets
and herons, cormorants, gulls and sand hill cranes to name a
few.
u
Border collies are
silent workers, a trait bred into them hundreds of years ago to
prevent them from disturbing the sheep when working. By moving
the birds and wildlife with their “eye”, and not their “bark”,
they can be effective in noise-ridden areas. It allows them to
appear stealthy which is a predator behavior and the birds find
it very threatening.
u
Border collies
trained by Flyaway Farm and Kennels for bird and wildlife
control are carefully screened for temperament and trainability;
only the best of the best make the cut. The dogs come from some
of the top herding lines in the country. They are raised in a
family environment and well socialized to give you a
well-rounded working dog.
u
Border collies have
a high endurance and can work in all types of climate and
terrain.
u
Border collies are
not retrievers by nature. They do not have to bring the bird to
you to feel they have succeeded. Our dogs are taught that
their job is to make the birds leave and they are not done until
all the birds are gone. The only reward they need is lots of
praise and more birds to chase!
